POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening: One full-time position (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM) with required on-call shifts as well.

Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by:
    • Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
    • Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
    • Performing counting with the RN circulator.
    • Assisting with placement of sterile drapes.
    • Providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.
    • Maintaining an organized sterile field.
    • Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed.
    • Preparing sterile dressings.
  • Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
  • Assist with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
  • Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program. 
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • One year of perioperative services experience.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft word).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Solve practical problems in a calm, reasoned manner.
  • Modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient.
  • Act as a patient advocate.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

  • Demonstrate a professional, open-minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.   

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly lifting or move objects weighing 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
  • Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
