POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening: One full-time position – 12-hour shifts

To provide courteous, efficient and professional services/support to patients and co-workers. To remain in compliance with requirements from local, state, and federal officials. Performs the primary functions of evaluating, long term and short-term goals in treatment planning for patients, planning implementation, and ongoing assessment to all patients assigned. Is responsible for adhering to standards of ethics recognized by the Wyoming Department of Health and State Department of Emergency Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Is knowledgeable of and works within all pertinent, established Powell Valley Healthcare and PVHC Emergency Medical Services Policies, Procedures, and Protocols.
  • Triaging patients in varying degrees of distress and keeping the Emergency department RN informed on the status of patients in overflow situations. 
  • Rooming patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Rounding and assessing patient and family needs in the Emergency Department and the waiting room.
  • Answers assist the RN in the care of the patient using the delegation model.
  • Operates PVHC paging system.
  • Answers phone, operates radios, monitors various gauges and monitoring devices. 
  • Provide coverage for admissions staff in the ED, switchboard, or patient intake related to the bedside registration process.
  • After normal business hours, obtains medical records and x-rays in accordance with specified departmental procedures. 
  • Trained as drug-screen collectors in the ER.
  • Conducts patient call-backs.
  • Mentor new EMTs
  • Assists in maintaining and stocking medical supplies and equipment.
  • Under the direction of the Emergency Department Medical Director or their designee, assists personnel in emergency treatment administered in the Emergency Department.
  • Serves in a leadership role for the Emergency Medical Services crew on duty and on call.
  • Provides problem solving for situations that require immediate solutions that effect the department’s operation, which may include but is not limited to, staffing on an emergency basis.
  • Documents assessments and care of patients on the Emergency Medical Services medical record. This includes all associated reports and run logs.
  • Assists in starting IV’s, take vital signs, help turn or move patients as needed within the Emergency Department and in other areas of the organization.
  • Administer medications and assists in procedures within their scope of practice and under the direction of the ED or Hospitalist physician.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Current licensed Wyoming EMT
  • BLS, AHA CLS, AHA PALS, and PHTLS Health care Provider
  • OSHA trained (preferred).
  • Must meet current facility age requirement to drive specially equipped emergency vehicle to specific location of 23 years of age.
  • Current Wyoming Drivers License.

  • Must have a working knowledge of the geographic area, street systems, and demographics of PVHC Emergency Medical Services coverage area.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently lifting of objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds
  • Extensive heavy lifting, pushing or pulling objects over 75 pounds, assistance or assistive devices will be used.
  • Use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
  • Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
